In Boryspil, a mother is suspected of murdering her newborn daughter

In Boryspil, Kyiv Oblast, a 29-year-old woman was notified that she is suspected of the intentional murder of her newborn child. The infant died in the hospital after falling from the balcony of a sixth-floor apartment.

According to the investigation, on September 3, the woman gave birth to a live baby girl. After being discharged from the maternity hospital, the family returned home. That same day, the husband left to register their daughter’s birth, while the mother remained alone with the infant.

Investigators believe that after he left, the woman went out onto the balcony and threw the child from the sixth floor. The girl sustained severe injuries and was hospitalized, but doctors were unable to save her.

The woman has been charged under Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—intentional murder by a mother of her newborn child immediately after childbirth.

The investigation is ongoing. The penalty under this article provides for up to five years of imprisonment.
