Second fire in Kyiv this evening following the Russian attack
On the evening of August 20, Russian drones attacked Kyiv again. In the Holosiivskyi district, debris from a drone fell onto the grounds of a non-residential building, causing a fire. Initial reports indicated one casualty, but Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko later confirmed that one person had died.
The Russian attack on Kyiv on the evening of August 20 caused a fire in the Holosiivskyi district. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, debris from the strike drone fell on the grounds of a non-residential building. A fire broke out there after the debris fell. Rescue workers from the State Emergency Service (DSNS) quickly arrived at the scene and began extinguishing the fire.
Initially, Klitschko reported that one person had been injured as a result of the attack. Medical personnel provided the necessary assistance. Later, the information changed. At 9:03 p.m., the mayor reported that one person had died as a result of the drone debris falling. “One person died in the Holosiivskyi district as a result of the debris falling,” Klitschko said. Thus, the evening attack marked the second dangerous incident in the district that day.
Air Quality Deteriorated Due to the Fire
Following the fire in the Holosiivskyi district, a deterioration in air quality was recorded in Kyiv. The Kyiv City State Administration urged residents of the district to temporarily take precautions to ensure their own safety. Kyiv residents were advised to close their windows and avoid spending long periods outdoors. They were also advised to drink plenty of water to maintain hydration.
If you have an air purifier at home, you’re advised to turn it on at maximum power. These measures should be followed until the effects of the fire are fully eliminated and air quality stabilizes. Residents of the area should also monitor further announcements from city authorities and emergency services.
This is the second fire in the area today
Russian drones attacked Kyiv not only in the evening. The first attack occurred around 5:20 p.m. During that incident, debris from a strike drone fell on the grounds of a business center in the Holosiivskyi district. A fire broke out there as well, after which emergency responders arrived on the scene.
According to available information, a 50-year-old man was killed as a result of the first debris strike. Two other people were injured. Thus, in the course of a single evening, the Holosiivskyi district was struck twice by debris from Russian drones. Both incidents led to fires, and the falling debris resulted in fatalities.
Rescue workers continue to deal with the aftermath
After the second debris strike, emergency responders began extinguishing the fire. Specialists must extinguish the fire and inspect the area where the drone crashed. Medical personnel and other emergency services are also on the scene. Once the work is complete, specialists will be able to more accurately assess the extent of the damage.
Russian troops continued to launch attack drones into Ukrainian territory throughout the day. Some of them were heading toward Kyiv. The consequences of the attack in the capital are still being assessed. At the same time, there are already reports of one fatality and several injuries, as well as two fires in the Holosiivskyi district caused by falling debris from Russian drones. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported this on Telegram.
The Russian attack overnight was one of the most cynical and large-scale strikes against Ukraine, stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, near the “Auchan” hypermarket on Zdolbunivska Street, a dangerous object was discovered which, according to preliminary data, may be a cluster munition from an X-101 missile.
