Ukrzaliznytsia has been urged to review passenger safety on the Kyiv Children's Railroad
Cartoonist Alina Blazhevich called on the management of “Ukrzaliznytsia” to reconsider its approach to the safety of visitors to the Kyiv Children’s Railway during air raid alerts. This followed an incident in which staff asked visitors—including children and adults—to leave the building and head to a shelter at the Dorogozhychi Metro station.
According to the cartoonist, the incident occurred during yet another air raid alert. At that moment, air defense systems were active over Kyiv and were shooting down enemy “Shahed”-type drones.
Blazhevych was outraged that people were told to leave the premises and make their own way to the shelter at the Dorogozhychi metro station.
She said that the walk from the Kyiv Children’s Railway station in Syrets Park to the nearest shelter takes about 15 minutes. During an air raid, staying outdoors—particularly due to the risk of falling debris from downed targets—can be dangerous.
Komikesa appealed to the management of “Ukrzaliznytsia” to review the safety protocols for visitors to the Children’s Railway during air raid alerts.
She noted that she is ready to help the company find specialists who could propose solutions to ensure people’s safety.
“I think you need to take responsibility, since you’re already charging for tickets,” Alina Blazhevich emphasized.
As of now, there has been no official response from Ukrzaliznytsia representatives regarding the situation.
As a reminder, during the massive Russian attack on Kyiv on the night of August 20, 2026, a stampede occurred near the entrance to the underground shelter at the capital’s Central Railway Station.
Blazhevych described the situation on her social media accounts.
Amid systematic threats of missile and air strikes, passengers are reminded that they are prohibited from remaining at train stations, platforms, and boarding areas during an alarm. If an alarm is sounded, passengers must immediately proceed to the nearest shelter, and if none is available, move to a safe distance, taking cover behind concrete structures or natural terrain features away from the tracks, glass facades, display boards, high-voltage lines, and crowds of people.
As a reminder, “Ukrzaliznytsia” dismissed two conductors of the Khmelnytskyi–Kyiv train following an incident involving a 17-year-old passenger at the Fastiv station in Kyiv Oblast. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the case.
