In Kyiv, a company tied a 58-year-old man to a tree and beat him to death

In Kyiv, law enforcement officers detained five suspects who beat a 58-year-old passerby to death, tortured him near a tree, and attempted to destroy video evidence of their crime.

All suspects are currently in custody and face life imprisonment.

The tragedy unfolded near a local coffee shop—owned by one of the attackers—where a group of young men had been hanging out.

Law enforcement received a report that a man’s body, showing severe injuries, had been found on the riverbank along 6th Line Sadova Street. Investigators determined that the brutal attack was triggered by a routine argument.

“Shortly thereafter, a verbal altercation broke out between one of them and a passerby. The attackers began beating the 58-year-old man with their hands, feet, and a wooden stick. They then forcibly dragged the victim behind a coffee shop, tied him to a tree with a rope, and continued beating him. Despite the victim’s repeated pleas to stop the abuse, the attackers did not respond,” the police press service reported.

According to the investigation, after some time, the seriously injured Kyiv resident managed to free himself from the ropes and attempted to flee toward a body of water. However, the suspects caught up with him, knocked him to the ground, and beat him again.

The man sustained fatal injuries to his head and chest and died at the scene.

The police press service added that the suspects attempted to cover up their crime and destroy the memory cards from the surveillance cameras located at the coffee shop.

However, they were unable to cover up the traces of the murder thanks to the swift and coordinated actions of Kyiv’s operatives and investigators.

Law enforcement officers apprehended all of the man’s attackers—five men between the ages of 18 and 34.

Four of the suspects were taken into custody shortly after the crime in the capital. One of the suspects was detained in the Odesa region, where he had been actively hiding from the police.

This was reported by the Kyiv Police Press Service on Wednesday, June 24.
