A scheme involving bookings through a fictitious chaplain position was exposed in Kyiv

Law enforcement officials have arrested the organizer of a scam who promised a conscript, in exchange for a substantial sum of money, to secure him a position as a chaplain in order to obtain a deferment and the opportunity to travel abroad.

This was reported on Monday, May 4, by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

In Kyiv, a conscript was offered $25,000 to become a military chaplain in order to secure a deferment—the organizer of the scheme was detained

Under the procedural guidance of the Shevchenkivskyi District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv, a 30-year-old native of Cherkasy region was notified of suspicion of extorting money for helping a conscript secure a position as a military chaplain and facilitating the man’s travel abroad.

The Kyiv resident was looking for a job that would grant him a deferment. The suspect initially promised to place him at a critical infrastructure facility, and then offered him the position of chaplain at one of the military units. This would have allowed the man to obtain a deferment and travel abroad. The suspect valued this assistance at $25,000.

At the same time, the suspect was not interested in whether the man, who was subject to military service, had any experience working in religious organizations.

The organizer of the scheme was detained while receiving the money.

As a reminder, young men who stole a memorial plaque dedicated to Dudaev were detained in Lviv.

On April 21, a commemorative plaque dedicated to the first president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Dzhokhar Dudaev, was unveiled in Lviv.

A monument to Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin will be erected in Abakan, the capital of the Republic of Khakassia.
