A social patrol will begin operating in Kyiv this winter
From December 1 to April 1, a social patrol will be operating in the capital to assist people without permanent housing, those who are temporarily homeless, and residents facing crisis situations. A mobile team will distribute 200 free hot meals daily and provide information on available shelter and social services.
The social patrol has been operating in the capital since 2006 and is reactivated every year with the onset of the cold season—and the same will be true for the winter of 2026–2027: the team will operate from December 1 through April 1. The team consists of a social worker, a driver, and a cook. The mobile unit goes out every day, including weekends and holidays, and not only feeds people but also informs them about available social services and the possibility of receiving assistance at specialized facilities.
Every day, the patrol delivers 200 hot meals, which are distributed free of charge according to the approved schedule:
- Darnitsa Suburban Train Station (1 Pryvokzalna St.) – from 11:00 a.m. to 11:40 a.m.;
- “Kyiv-Volynskyi” railway station – from 1:10 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.;
- Central Railway Station (7 Vokzalna St.) – from 1:50 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.
The following individuals can seek assistance from the patrol:
- people without a permanent place of residence;
- those who are temporarily homeless;
- people facing life crises.
Patrolling is just one of the forms of assistance that the city government offers to homeless people during the winter. Kyiv has a network of facilities where people can receive comprehensive support: a temporary place to sleep, meals, personal hygiene items, and the opportunity to take a shower. Specialists from the Social Care Center’s departments also assist people with finding employment, restoring documents, and registering their place of residence or stay.
If you know someone who needs this kind of support, you can report it by calling the Social Care Center at (044) 497-41-81.
