Three temperature records were set in Kyiv in a single day
On August 6, three temperature records were set in Kyiv at once. The highest temperature reached 39 °C, and the average daily temperature was nearly 10 degrees higher than the climatological norm.
The night in the capital was also a record-breaking hot one. The minimum air temperature did not drop below 25.3 °C. This is 4.1 °C higher than the previous record for August 6, set in 2023. The heat intensified during the day. The maximum temperature in Kyiv reached 39.0 °C. This figure is the highest on record for August 6.
The previous record high temperature for this date was set in 2010, when the air warmed to 36.3 °C. Thus, this year’s reading was 2.7 °C higher. Another record was set for the average daily temperature. On August 6, it stood at 31.5 °C, also marking the highest on record for this date. This is 2.8 °C higher than the previous record, set in 2010. At the same time, the average daily temperature was 9.4 °C higher than the climatological norm.
Thus, in a single day, the capital set three new temperature records—for the minimum, maximum, and average daily air temperatures. The Boris Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory reported the new temperature records on August 7.
