The Kyiv City State Administration commented on the tents in the subway during the alerts

A debate has erupted in Kyiv over the tents that residents are setting up in the subway during air raid alerts, and the authorities have responded for the first time regarding possible restrictions. The Kyiv City State Administration notes that the situation is complex and requires further discussion to strike a balance between people’s comfort and safety.

A lively debate is ongoing in the capital after disputes arose on the social media platform Threads regarding the tents in the Kyiv subway that people set up during nighttime air raid alerts. Some users believe that the tents take up too much space and get in the way of others, while others are convinced that such tents help people—especially children, the elderly, and pet owners—get through long nights in shelters.

Kateryna Pop, a spokesperson for the Kyiv City Military Administration, responded to the situation, noting in a comment to journalists that the issue is not simple and requires further consultation and public discussion. She noted that the possibility of introducing certain rules or restrictions cannot be ruled out, but any decision must take into account the interests of all people who use the shelters. “As for capacity, the metro is critical transportation infrastructure, so it is difficult for us to discuss increasing the metro’s capacity,” Pop explained.

At the same time, she emphasized that the top priority remains safety and the ability for as many people as possible to find shelter during air raid alerts, so the authorities are not rushing into radical decisions and plan to discuss the situation with metro management.

According to representatives of the Kyiv City State Administration, metro employees continue to work around the clock, especially during air raid alerts, to organize the placement of people in shelters and help prevent chaos in the subway.

The conflict on social media continues to escalate: some Kyiv residents insist that the tents create inconveniences in the already overcrowded shelters, while others consider them a necessary solution for a more comfortable stay underground during prolonged shelling of the city. This was reported by "Novyny.LIVE."

The Kyiv City Military Administration stated that the issue of using tents in the capital’s metro during air raid alerts requires separate discussion, and the introduction of certain restrictions in the future cannot be ruled out.

On the night of June 2, during another massive shelling of the capital, more than 41,000 people were in the underground stations of the Kyiv Metro, including nearly 4,500 children. This figure is the highest in recent years.

During today’s massive shelling, the Russian Federation fired eight Zircon hypersonic missiles at Ukrainian territory.

Poland scrambled its combat aircraft in response to Russia’s large-scale air attack on Ukraine.

Russia attacked Kharkiv and the surrounding region overnight; there are casualties.
