The Kyiv Metro provided shelter to more than 40,000 people during the heavy shelling on June 2

The Kyiv Metro provided shelter to more than 40,000 people during the heavy shelling on June 2

On the night of June 2, during yet another massive shelling of the capital, more than 41,000 people were in the underground stations of the Kyiv Metro, including nearly 4,500 children. This figure is the highest in recent years.

When an air raid alert is declared, the 46 underground stations of the capital’s metro system traditionally operate exclusively as civil shelters, and absolutely all lobbies, without exception, are open to the public.

Representatives of the Kyiv Metro municipal enterprise once again remind passengers and residents that during prolonged air raid alerts, when tens of thousands of people are underground at the same time, it is critically important to ensure the safety and comfort of those around you. In particular, they strongly recommend that those seeking shelter strictly follow safety rules and not block evacuation routes, leaving clear passageways to allow people to move quickly through the station. In addition, company experts advise choosing the city’s central stations for shelter whenever possible, as they are typically less crowded than others during emergencies.
