Kyiv City Express service was suspended in Kyiv due to frequent air raid alerts
Train service on the Kyiv City Express line has been temporarily suspended in both directions in Kyiv. This decision was made due to an increased air threat, as directed by the Ukrzaliznytsia monitoring group. Passengers were urged to take shelter or move at least 200 meters away from railway infrastructure during the suspension.
Service on the Kyiv City Express commuter train loop has been temporarily suspended in Kyiv. Trains are not running in either direction due to an elevated air threat. The decision to suspend service was made at the direction of the Ukrzaliznytsia monitoring group. These measures are primarily aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers and railway employees. During the forced suspension, passengers are advised not to remain near the tracks or other railway infrastructure. “During safety stops, stay in shelters or at least 200 meters away from railway infrastructure,” passengers were urged.
Service on the circular line is scheduled to resume once the air threat has passed and the monitoring group has granted the necessary authorization. Once service resumes, trains will attempt to make up for the delay. However, the schedule may be temporarily adjusted due to safety stops.
Such stops are possible during air raid alerts
Kyiv City Express had previously warned that during air raid alerts in the capital, trains on the circular commuter line may be forced to stop. The carrier announced this as early as July 24. At that time, they explained that the decision was related to Russian strikes on railway and other critical infrastructure. Due to the threat of such attacks, train service may be suspended even if trains are already en route.
For passengers, this means that during an air raid alert, they should be prepared for train delays or temporary stops. Once Ukrzaliznytsia’s monitoring team gives the “green light,” service resumes. Trains will then attempt to return to their regular schedule. The railway operator also urges passengers to listen to announcements and follow the instructions of railway staff during such stops.
The top priority right now is ensuring people’s safety. Therefore, even if a stop may cause a delay, service is resumed only after the threat has passed. Passengers planning to use the Kyiv City Express during air raid alerts should expect possible delays and temporary stops. In Kyiv, where a significant number of large shopping and entertainment centers are located, the duration of air raid alerts increased significantly in August. While in July they accounted for 3.3% of working hours, in August this figure rose to 11.6%.
