Scammers who demanded $20,000 to secure a man's release from the TCC were arrested in the capital

In Kyiv, law enforcement officers exposed and detained a group of criminals who were attempting to profit at the expense of the family of a conscript.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

The accomplices promised the woman a substantial monetary reward to “resolve the issue” of her common-law husband’s release from the territorial recruitment center.

The story began when a Kyiv resident was detained on the street by representatives of the Territorial Recruitment Center and the police, after which he was taken to the center’s premises to undergo a military medical examination.

It was there that the man met another citizen who, under the guise of a friendly conversation, extracted information about his family and his wife’s phone number.

After obtaining the necessary information, the schemer’s accomplice called the detainee’s wife and claimed to be aware of all her “husband’s problems.”

She offered urgent assistance in “releasing him from the TCC and SP,” pricing her services at $20,000.

The criminals resorted to psychological pressure, setting a strict deadline for the transfer of funds.

They assured the woman that the money had to be handed over within a few hours, because later her husband would allegedly be sent directly to a military unit, and then it would be impossible to “help” him.

The detainee’s common-law wife did not fall for the provocation and contacted law enforcement.

Just five hours later, under the close supervision of operatives, the entire bribe was handed over, during which the “rescuers” were caught red-handed.

The SBU also detained a Russian agent who was guiding airstrikes on Sloviansk.
