Kyiv now has a park named after Hero of Ukraine Sviatoslav Aleksapolskyi
In Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi District, a public square has been named in honor of Hero of Ukraine Sviatoslav Aleksapolskyi, who died in the war against Russia.
This was reported by the Kyiv City Council.
The square in question is located on Yuri Shumsky Street between buildings No. 1-B and No. 3. The decision to rename it was adopted on April 23 during a plenary session.
As noted by the city council, the initiative was previously supported by Kyiv residents during a public discussion on the “Kyiv Digital” app.
Sviatoslav Aleksapolskyi was born in Crimea and served as a soldier and scout. He participated in the ATO/JFO, and after the start of the full-scale invasion, he once again took up arms to defend Ukraine.
He joined the defense of the Kyiv region and later served in territorial defense units, where he served as commander of a reconnaissance platoon.
For his courage and devotion to Ukraine, Aleksapolsky was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
The city council emphasizes that the renaming of the square aims to honor the memory of the fallen soldier and preserve the names of defenders in the urban space.
Earlier in Kyiv, near Askold’s Grave, the memory of Hero of Ukraine and commander of the “Da Vinci Wolves” battalion, Dmytro Kotsyubailo (call sign “Da Vinci”), was honored. He was killed on March 7, 2023, in battle near Bakhmut.
But on the night of Wednesday, June 20, unknown individuals desecrated the graves of the fallen Dmytro Kotsyubailo (Da Vinci), Pavlo Petrychenko, and Andriy Pilshchikov (Jus) in Kyiv.
