A Kyiv woman who slit the throat of a birthday celebrant and then left the party to go home has been convicted

The Obolon District Court of Kyiv handed down a sentence to a 59-year-old woman, sentencing her to 10 years in prison for the intentional murder of an acquaintance. The crime occurred in September 2023 during the victim’s birthday celebration near the entrance to his apartment building, when the defendant pretended to hug the 69-year-old man and fatally stabbed him in the neck.

In court, the woman pleaded not guilty and attempted to shift the blame onto her live-in partner; however, molecular genetic tests confirmed the presence of the victim’s DNA under her fingernails and in her backpack. Prosecutors fully proved the defendant’s guilt under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution insisted on a 13-year prison sentence; therefore, the prosecution will appeal the imposed sentence.
