ABC launches quiz on Australian crime novels
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has published a quiz on Australian crime fiction as voting begins for the Top 100 Australian Books Countdown. Participants are invited to test their knowledge of works, authors, screen adaptations and characters in the genre popular in the country.
Crime fiction and the book ranking
As ABC News Australia reports, Australian readers have shown considerable interest in crime fiction in recent years. These books are set in Melbourne and Sydney, suburbs and the arid regions of central Australia. ABC notes that these works address issues including gender-based violence and climate change.
ABC lists Peter Temple, Garry Disher and Jane Harper among the country’s most beloved authors in the genre. Their books may be included in the Top 100 Australian Books Countdown, which Radio National plans to present on October 17 and 18 based on audience voting results.

Novels and screen adaptations
The quiz consists of ten questions. One of them is devoted to Jane Harper’s novel “The Dry” and its 2020 film adaptation. Readers are also invited to recall the series of novels about Cormac Reilly and identify the Peter Temple book that in 2010 became the first crime novel to win the Miles Franklin Literary Award.
Separate questions concern works by Nicole Watson, Margaret Hickey and other authors, as well as television adaptations of novels by Candice Fox and Chris Hammer. The answer options mention the series “Troppo” and “Treasure & Dirt.”
