Amanda Lear accuses Miley Cyrus of plagiarism — France 24
French disco singer Amanda Lear has publicly accused American performer Miley Cyrus of plagiarism. According to Lear, Cyrus’s new track Redlights resembles her song The Sphinx, released in 1978.
Amanda Lear’s statement
As France 24 reports, in a Sunday social media post, Lear wrote that Cyrus had copied The Sphinx and said she was flattered by it. She added hashtags meaning “plagiarism” and “copying” to the post.
At the same time, Lear told AFP that she is not inclined to file lawsuits. According to her, her record label Universal and the publishers of the song, for which she wrote the lyrics, are seeking recognition of plagiarism. The singer stressed that she had merely drawn attention to the situation and had not threatened Cyrus with either a lawsuit or any other retaliatory action.

Redlights was included on Miley Cyrus’s tenth album, Bass Persuades, which was released last Friday. The record contains 10 tracks and is described as a dance-pop release. The article compares Redlights with Lear’s slower song featuring husky vocals.
