California and Nashville declare September 25 Dolly Parton Day — Rolling Stone
In the United States, the state of California and the city of Nashville have declared September 25 Dolly Parton Day. The date 9/25 is a reference to the singer’s song “9 to 5,” Rolling Stone reports.
California’s decision
California Governor Gavin Newsom approved Senate Bill 931, which recognizes September 25 as a day to honor Dolly Parton in the state. The bipartisan bill was prepared by state Senator Shannon Grove and state Senator John Laird.
Grove said that an important part of Parton’s legacy is her Imagination Library program, which has delivered millions of books to the youngest readers. San Francisco is also planning a free Dolly Day celebration on September 25 featuring music, glittering costumes, and a tribute to the singer.

In Nashville, Mayor Freddie O’Connell had previously announced city events for Dolly Parton Day. The program is set to conclude with fireworks.
September 25 has also been declared Dolly Parton Day in Portland, Oregon. In addition, the counties of Montgomery and Hays in Texas adopted corresponding resolutions.
