Dawn rates Deltarune Chapter 5 for visuals and platforming elements
The fifth chapter of the role-playing game Deltarune received a score of 6 out of 7 in a Dawn review. The reviewer called the chapter substantial and highlighted its visual design, music, platforming elements and characters. At the same time, the reviewer noted that the events of Chapter 5 have lower stakes than the climactic previous chapter.
At the beginning of the chapter, the player explores a city festival in the Light World and later enters a new Dark World. According to the reviewer, its style combines floral motifs, elements of Japanese folklore, Shinto shrines and temples, as well as a castle inspired by Edo-period architecture.
Visuals, music and platforming segments
The review notes the noticeably higher visual quality of Chapter 5 while retaining the game's pixel aesthetic. The author also drew attention to animated scenes, different character designs for certain characters and detailed backgrounds, including cliffside views in pink-orange tones.
The soundtrack uses familiar leitmotifs and supplements them with Japanese musical influences and MIDI instrumentals. Hatsune Miku can be heard in one of the tracks, the reviewer noted.

Chapter 5 introduces platforming segments in which players jump between platforms, dodge attacks, and use dashes, a sword and spells. These episodes retain Deltarune's characteristic bullet hell mechanics and also use bounce and wind mechanics.
Characters and hidden content
The author positively assessed the development of the main trio of characters, including Kris and Ralsei, as well as the new heroes. Chapter 5 features seven flowers kept by Asgore: they have humanoid forms, their own personalities and mechanical traits.
The chapter encourages players to explore locations and discover additional areas and items. At the same time, the reviewer warns that completing the Weird Route is significantly shorter than the neutral or pacifist routes and skips large parts of the events in a regular playthrough. New chapters of the game are to be released as free updates; the price is $12.49 on Steam and $24.99 on Nintendo and PlayStation.
