Jean Smart and Noah Wyle Win Emmy Awards in Los Angeles
Actors Jean Smart and Noah Wyle received Emmy Awards at a television ceremony in Los Angeles, United States. Smart won her fifth Primetime Emmy for playing a stand-up comedian in the series “Hacks,” while Wyle was recognized for the second consecutive time for his role as Dr. Robby Robinavitch in the medical drama “The Pitt.”
As reported by Daily Maverick, Smart became the first performer to win in the category of best actress in a comedy series in every season of a single show. The final season of “Hacks” was released on HBO Max this year. During her speech, the actress thanked the creators of the series and called the experience a great journey.
Wyle and other winners
Noah Wyle said that his second consecutive win was overwhelming for him. In “The Pitt,” he plays a traumatized emergency department doctor; the series is set in a Pittsburgh trauma center. The actor also called himself a “Hollywood child” and thanked those present for accepting him into a community he had long wanted to become part of.

Stephen Root, who stars in “Widow’s Bay,” won the award for best supporting actor in a comedy series, beating category favorite Harrison Ford from “Shrinking.” Rhea Seehorn received the award for best actress in a drama series for the first time in her career for her role in Apple TV’s new series “Pluribus.”
Ceremony host
The ceremony was hosted by Mariska Hargitay, known for her role in the NBC drama “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” According to Daily Maverick, this marked a departure from the tradition of inviting a comedian as host. The ceremony was broadcast live on NBC and the Peacock streaming platform.
Emmy winners are selected by more than 27,000 members of the Television Academy, including writers, directors, performers, producers and other television industry professionals.
