Johnny Depp May Return to *Pirates of the Caribbean*
American actor Johnny Depp may once again play Captain Jack Sparrow in the sixth installment of the legendary "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.
Series producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that the team is in talks with Depp and is simultaneously working on the script.
“We’re talking to Johnny, working on the script, and hope we can make it happen,” Brookheimer said.
In the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, Johnny Depp played one of his most famous characters—Captain Jack Sparrow.
The latest and fifth installment of the franchise—*Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge*—was released in 2017. The release date for a potential sequel has not yet been announced.
At the same time, Johnny Depp himself has not yet officially confirmed his return to the franchise.
In 2018, Disney ended its collaboration with the actor amid a scandal involving his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Depp later stated that he felt betrayed by the franchise’s creators and had no plans to return to the role, even for a substantial fee.
Now the situation may be changing: negotiations with the actor regarding the sixth installment are already underway, although a final decision on his participation in the film has not yet been announced.
The Independent reports this.
As a reminder, Disney is preparing a soft reboot of the iconic “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise — Johnny Depp is returning to the project as Jack Sparrow, along with Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, who will play Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. An official announcement is expected as early as August at the Disney D23 Expo.
