The cult action film starring Reeves is set to get a reboot

The cult action film *Point Break*, starring Keanu Reeves, is getting a new lease on life—the story is being adapted into a TV series that will serve as a sequel to the original film. The events will unfold 25 years after the story familiar to viewers and will present a new narrative tied to the original themes. The premiere is tentatively scheduled for 2027, according to Screen Rant.

The television market is gearing up for the return of one of the most famous action films of the 90s—AMC Global Media is working on a series based on *Point Break*, which is intended not as a remake but as a continuation of the story with new characters and a modern take on the legendary plot.

The original 1991 film told the story of FBI agent Johnny Utah, played by Keanu Reeves, who goes undercover in the Southern California surfer scene to investigate a series of daring robberies, and gradually faces a moral dilemma as the line between law and freedom begins to blur. The central figure of that story was Bodhi, played by Patrick Swayze—the charismatic leader of a surfer gang for whom risk, speed, and robbery became a way of life and a unique philosophy of freedom.

The new series, as envisioned by the creators, will transport viewers 25 years into the future and showcase a different team of robbers operating within a new reality, while maintaining a connection to the legendary Ex-Presidents, who were the heart of the original film. Dave Kalstein is working on the script and production, and filming is scheduled to begin in Australia later this year, giving the project an international scope and underscoring AMC’s ambition to create a major television sequel.

The team has also been joined by well-known industry figures, including director Shane Black, creator of “Lethal Weapon” and “Iron Man 2,” showrunner Craig Silverstein, and producers associated with major franchises, including “The Walking Dead,” which demonstrates a serious commitment to the project.

Although there is no exact release date yet, AMC is targeting 2027, and the project is already generating interest among fans of the original film, who are waiting to see if the new version can capture the same spirit of freedom and risk that made the film a cult classic.
