A scandal has erupted surrounding Anna Trincher’s new hit “Margarita” following an investigation by the publication MUZVAR, which claimed that the music for the song was written by Donetsk native Vladimir Kurto.
According to journalists, he lives in Moscow, continues to work with Russian artists, and previously headed the studio of Russian singer Grigory Leps.
The singer’s team explained that the rights to the song were purchased back in 2021 from a Ukrainian rights holder. According to them, at the time the agreement was signed, the author was listed in public sources as a citizen of Ukraine, and Trincher herself had no contact with him.
The artist’s representatives also emphasized that the composition had been significantly reworked, and that they would now verify the origin of works and their authors more thoroughly.
At the same time, the journalists stated that following their inquiry, streaming services had changed the information about the song’s composer. In addition, the editorial team reported receiving anonymous threats and attempts to exert pressure in the days leading up to the publication of the investigation. According to the journalists, all materials have already been handed over to law enforcement agencies.
