For Nolan, *Odysee* was the first film in 14 years to gross over $1 billion

Christopher Nolan's new film, *Odyssey*, has grossed over $1 billion in its first three weeks in theaters. For the director, this is the first film in 14 years to surpass that milestone. The film, starring Matt Damon as the Greek king Odysseus, is already on track to become Nolan’s highest-grossing film.

Three weeks after its theatrical release, *The Odyssey* has grossed $429.65 million in North America. The film has earned an additional $578.8 million in international markets.

As a result, the film’s total box office has already surpassed $1 billion. The film runs about three hours and tells the story of Odysseus’s return home after the Trojan War. This achievement is particularly significant for Nolan. The last time one of his films crossed the $1 billion mark was in 2012, when *The Dark Knight Rises* was released.

“The Odyssey” Could Set a New Record for Nolan

At the moment, *Odyssey* has not yet become the director’s highest-grossing film, but according to projections, it is very close. The film is expected to surpass Nolan’s previous records in the coming days.

The 2009 “The Dark Knight” grossed $1.008 billion at the time, while the 2012 “The Dark Knight Rises” grossed $1.08 billion. If the box office momentum continues, *Odyssey* could become Nolan’s highest-grossing film.

The Fifth $1 Billion Film of 2026

*Odyssey* also became the fifth film of 2026 to gross at least $1 billion at the global box office. Prior to this, the following films had crossed the $1 billion mark:

  • *Spider-Man: A New Day* — $1.18 billion, and its earnings continue to rise;
  • “Toy Story 5” — $1.067 billion;
  • “Super Mario: The Movie” — $1.001 billion;
  • “Michael”—$1.001 billion.

Thus, “Odyssey” became one of the biggest box office hits of 2026 and, at the same time, brought Nolan back into the billion-dollar club after a 14-year hiatus. This was reported by Variety.

Tom Holland could receive a record-breaking paycheck for the new Spider-Man.

"Spider-Man" star Tom Holland spoke for the first time about his struggle with alcohol addiction.
