William Shatner makes heavy metal debut in Chicago — Rolling Stone
In Chicago, United States, 95-year-old actor William Shatner, known for Star Trek, made his heavy metal debut with his new band. As Rolling Stone reports, the performance at the Park West club took place as a warm-up before Shatner’s first official show at the Riot Fest festival.

The six-song set included three tracks from Shatner’s upcoming album What the F Is Heavy Metal?. He also performed covers of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train,” Metallica’s “Enter Sandman,” and Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades.”

Earlier, Shatner wrote on social media that heavy metal would become his new musical direction after working with spoken word, blues, country, Christmas, and children’s songs. In a conversation with Billboard, the actor said that he understood heavy metal as energy that fills the body and elevates a person.
Guests on the upcoming album
In addition to Shatner’s band, the recording of What the F Is Heavy Metal? featured Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, Brian May of Queen, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Dave Lombardo of Slayer, and other musicians. Shatner also told Billboard that he is excited about the upcoming performance and sees heavy metal as the “rhythm of life.”
