"Our Sticky Love" topped Netflix's global ranking of non-English-language series

The South Korean Netflix romantic comedy series “Our Sticky Love” topped the platform’s global ranking of non-English-language TV shows for August 10–16. According to Netflix’s Tudum website, the series garnered 7.5 million views and 88 million viewing hours. The 12-episode series premiered on August 7, according to the Korea Herald.

Jeon Hye-in and Ahn Ha-yeon star in the series. The plot follows prosecutor Ko In-se, who has lost her memory, and boxing coach Jang Tae-ha, who claims to be her boyfriend. The characters are forced to live together, grow closer, and uncover the secrets of their shared past.

The series’ success has been accompanied by controversy surrounding Ahn Ha-yeon’s family history. After the premiere, unconfirmed claims surfaced online that her great-grandfather may have been linked to an organization of pro-Japanese collaborators during the period of Japanese colonial rule in Korea from 1910 to 1945.

On August 7, on the KBS program “Problem Child in House,” the actress shared that her great-grandfather opened a Western medicine clinic in Hanyang—the former name of Seoul—and treated Emperor Gojong. According to her, her grandfather, father, and older sister are also doctors, making her family’s medical lineage span four generations.

As reported by the Korea Herald, online discussions have speculated that the actress’s great-grandfather was Dr. Ahn Sang-ho, who practiced medicine during the Japanese colonial period. The discussion centers on Ahn Ha-yeon’s public references to her great-grandfather amid unconfirmed reports of his alleged ties to a pro-Japanese organization.

The global Netflix ranking of non-English-language TV shows also includes the Korean series “Spooky In Love,” which took third place with 2.7 million views and 28.3 million viewing hours, and “Agent Kim Reactivated,” which took ninth place with 1.4 million views and 15 million viewing hours. Netflix calculates the number of views by dividing the total number of viewing hours by the project’s runtime.
