The 2026 ASEAN Film Festival has begun in Hong Kong
The 2026 ASEAN Film Festival kicked off in Hong Kong on August 20. According to ECNS, more than 30 free film screenings will take place at several local venues through September 27.
The festival is co-organized by the Hong Kong–ASEAN Foundation and the Hong Kong Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDAHK) under the Culture and Tourism Bureau. The opening ceremony took place in Hong Kong on August 20.

This year, Timor-Leste is participating in the festival’s program for the first time. The country will present a selection of short films about intangible cultural heritage dedicated to music.
Hong Kong’s Secretary for Culture, Rosanna Law, stated that the festival aligns with the city’s role as a hub where East and West converge. After the screenings, audience members will have the opportunity to interact with the directors and crew members attending the festival.
