Poet Daria Lisich insulted a Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier following a dispute with blogger Verba
Ukrainian poet Daria Lisich found herself at the center of a public outcry following her harsh remarks directed at Maria Gaevska, a serviceman in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The conflict erupted on social media amid discussions of posts by blogger Yulia Verba, who shared a photo of a lavish bouquet and had previously been embroiled in scandals over ostentatious “tips” in foreign currency in Bukovel.
The dispute began after Maria Gaevska publicly pointed out the inappropriateness of displaying luxury during wartime, when society faces daily fundraising efforts for the army and casualties on the front lines.
Daria Lisich responded by defending blogger Yulia Verba, emphasizing that everyone has the right to a private life and to publish such content. However, the discussion quickly turned emotional.
During an exchange on Threads, the poet made an offensive remark directed at the soldier, calling Maria Gaevska a “chicken.” This sparked a sharp reaction from social media users and a wave of criticism.
In the comments, users wrote, among other things:
“This is rock bottom. Calling a female soldier a chicken just because she reminded us of the war?”
“Lisich has simply forgotten who it is that allows her to write poetry and drink coffee in the rear.”
“Willow trees and scandals are practically synonyms, but Lisich’s behavior is simply shocking.”
Amid the discussion, a sharp response emerged from one of the soldiers, who emotionally commented on the situation:
“The high society wants to live well, but the evil military won’t let them. Ladies and gentlemen, any soldier has every moral right to call someone out for the posts they put up. Especially if that someone is an “opinion leader” with an audience of thousands. So you can all hold hands and go f*ck yourselves. And take Yulichka Verba with you.”
The scandal continues to be actively discussed on social media, dividing the audience into supporters and critics of both sides.
Earlier, well-known TV host Marichka Padalko refused the services of the Kyiv fitness club “2BFit” due to its systematic use of Russian.
There is also a scandal in Kyiv at the Helen Doron language school over the use of Russian.
