Petro Pryimak, a soloist with the National Opera of Ukraine, has died
Petro Pryimak, a leading soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine, Honored Artist, and teacher, passed away at the age of 58.
The singer’s death on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2026, was announced on Facebook by the theater’s artistic director, Anatoliy Solovyanenko. According to colleagues, the artist had performed on stage in the opera “Carmen” just two days before the tragedy, which turned out to be his final performance.
Petro Pryimak was born in the Ternopil region and dedicated over thirty years to working at the country’s leading opera house. In addition to the Ukrainian stage, he performed in France, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, and other countries around the world. The singer also left a significant legacy in the form of recordings for radio, television, and CD, including Ukrainian Christmas carols and New Year’s songs.
In the last years of his life, Petro Pryimak combined his artistic career with teaching at the Chamber Singing Department of the National Music Academy of Ukraine. His death was a great loss for the cultural community, while Russia continues to destroy Ukrainian infrastructure and logistics. Colleagues and students remember the artist as a talented mentor and an outstanding master of the stage.
