Practical Magic 2 tops North American box office
Singaporean outlet Channel NewsAsia reported that Practical Magic 2 topped the North American box office during its debut weekend. According to preliminary estimates, the Warner Bros. film grossed $30 million in North America and ended Spider-Man: Brand New Day's six-week run at the top.
The return of the Owens sisters
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman once again played sisters Sally and Gillian Owens — modern-day witches. According to the plot, they are burdened by a curse: every man they fall in love with faces an early death.
Outside North America, Practical Magic 2 earned another $16 million. Thus, the film's worldwide opening gross is estimated at $46 million.
The original 1998 film Practical Magic initially failed to win over critics but later built a cult following. Industry analyst David A. Gross noted that reviews for the sequel are weak, while audience ratings are high. In his view, the film's success is helped by its cast, which also includes Maisie Williams and Joey King.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, took second place for the weekend, earning another $8.4 million in North America. The film's worldwide gross after seven weeks in release amounted to $2.45 billion.
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey took third place, earning $7.4 million in North America. Its worldwide gross after nine weeks in release amounted to $1.64 billion.
The action comedy Runner, starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson, debuted in fourth place, earning $6.4 million in North America. Coyote Vs Acme, starring Will Forte and the animated Wile E. Coyote, took fifth place with $5.6 million.
