Radiohead to play first concerts in Australia in 15 years in 2027

British band Radiohead will play its first concerts in Australia in 15 years in May 2027. There is already considerable buzz around the tickets, which ABC News Australia compares to demand for performances by Taylor Swift and Oasis.

History of the band

Radiohead formed in Oxfordshire in 1985 under the name On A Friday — the name referred to the day when the musicians rehearsed. In 1991, after studying at universities, the members signed a six-album contract with EMI and changed the band's name to Radiohead, after a Talking Heads song.

The permanent core lineup includes vocalist Thom Yorke, drummer Phil Selway, bassist Colin Greenwood, multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood and guitarist Ed O'Brien. The band's core lineup has remained the same for nearly 40 years, although additional drummers Clive Deamer and Chris Vatalaro also took part in concert tours.

Managers Chris Hufford and Bryce Edge have worked with the group since the beginning of its career. Producer Nigel Godrich and artist Stanley Donwood have played a central role in every Radiohead release since 1994.

From Creep to A Moon Shaped Pool

The debut album Pablo Honey was released in 1993, and the song Creep became the band's breakthrough. The subsequent albums The Bends in 1995 and OK Computer in 1997 cemented Radiohead's success, while Kid A, released in 2000, demonstrated a turn toward electronic experimentation. It was followed by Amnesiac, released in 2001.

The band's discography also includes Hail To The Thief, The King of Limbs and A Moon Shaped Pool. Radiohead's latest studio album, A Moon Shaped Pool, was released in 2016. In 2007, the musicians independently released In Rainbows under a pay-what-you-want model, allowing listeners to set the price of the digital release themselves.

Parallel projects

All Radiohead members have solo projects. Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood also compose music for films and, together with British drummer Tom Skinner, founded the side project The Smile. ABC News Australia lists Paranoid Android, Everything In Its Right Place, Fake Plastic Trees, Nude and Pyramid Song among Radiohead's key tracks for becoming acquainted with the band's work.
