In China, traditional crafts have become popular wedding gifts

In China, handmade crafts associated with intangible cultural heritage—particularly cloisonné—are gaining popularity as wedding gifts among young Chinese people. This demand is particularly noticeable during the Qixi Festival, which ECNS refers to as China’s Valentine’s Day.

Workshops in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province, have reported an increase in the number of visitors aged 20–35. Customers are creating personalized gifts: decorative cloisonné plates, items with mother-of-pearl inlays, and incense. ECNS also published a photo of cloisonné decorative plates from an intangible cultural heritage workshop in Shijiazhuang, taken on August 15.

Huang Wenhai, a master of the cloisonné tradition, said that the painstaking production process symbolizes the building of a marriage, which requires patience and mutual adaptation. As experts noted, this trend reflects a shift in aesthetic preferences toward personalization and authenticity. In their view, incorporating traditional crafts into everyday life also helps preserve cultural heritage.
