Two ballets by choreographer Evgeny Grib to be shown together in Tartu for the first time — ERR News
On September 26, the Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu, Estonia, will for the first time present two ballets by Estonian dancer and choreographer Evgeny Grib in one evening performance — Keep a Light in the Window and Tango.
The new two-part program will be shown in the Vanemuine Theatre's Small House building. The evening will open with the ballet Keep a Light in the Window, dedicated to the lives of residents of one apartment building. The production tells stories of love, loneliness, waiting and farewells, ERR News reports.
Childhood memories in ballet
Keep a Light in the Window was initially created as a short production. Grib received the Estonian Theatre Union's Ballet Award in 2019 for this work. The choreographer noted that the production is connected to his childhood memories of walks around the city with his grandmother. According to him, each of the ballet's four parts contains elements of his own stories and experiences.

The theme of closeness and confrontation
The ballet Tango tells about the meeting of a man and a woman, their attraction and confrontation. Through the language and imagery of tango, the production explores tension and intimacy between two people. Grib called this work one of his most emotional and linked it to passion, mystery, closeness and visual imagery.
Both ballets were previously staged at the Estonian National Opera: Keep a Light in the Window in 2018 and Tango in 2020. However, they have not yet been performed together as part of one evening. For both productions, Grib is the choreographer, set designer and costume designer.
