Ukrainian theaters earned a record 7.2 billion hryvnias in 2025
Ukraine's theater industry posted impressive financial results in 2025, generating total revenue of 7.2 billion hryvnia.
This figure includes revenue from state-run theaters, circuses, philharmonic societies, and private cultural institutions.
Analysts from the Vkursi platform prepared a ranking of the country’s most successful institutions ahead of World Theatre Day.
Theaters alone earned 4.5 billion UAH, with the top ten industry leaders accounting for nearly half of this amount.
The capital continues to hold its status as the main cultural center: six Kyiv institutions made it into the top 10.

The National Opera of Ukraine topped the list thanks to popular productions such as “The Marriage of Figaro” and “The Snow Queen.”
The Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater took second place with revenue of 321 million UAH.
The real hits of the season were the productions of “Macbeth” and the legendary “The Witch of Konotop,” which played to sold-out houses throughout the year.
The Odessa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater rounds out the top three, earning 285 million UAH.
Audiences in Odesa and visitors to the city most frequently attended the opera “Carmen” and the ballet “Lesyana,” ensuring consistently high box office receipts.
The ranking also includes venues from Lviv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro.
In particular, the Maria Zankovetska Theater in Lviv generated 232 million hryvnias in revenue, offering audiences a contemporary repertoire based on works by Serhiy Zhadan and Kuzma Skryabin.
Despite challenging conditions, theaters in frontline regions are also showing high activity. The M. V. Lysenko Kharkiv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater managed to earn 219 million UAH over the year.
As a reminder, the hit play “Prima Donnas,” based on Ken Ludwig’s play, will be staged in Kyiv.
Also, March 27 marks International Theater Day.
