Israel to host poetry, dance and ecotourism festivals for Sukkot
Israel will host two three-day cultural festivals dedicated to Sukkot from September 29 to October 1. The eighth Ushpizin Poetry Festival will take place in Jerusalem, while the Dance in the Village festival will be held at the Vertigo Ecological Art Village in the Elah Valley, The Jerusalem Post reports.
Poetry festival in Jerusalem
The Ushpizin festival at Confederation House will focus on the themes of home and memory. It will be held under the theme “Poets are called living after death.” Organizers use the traditional sukkah as a metaphor for an inner artistic refuge.
The event is led by Efi Benaya and Binyamin Shvili. The program includes readings, panel discussions and live musical accompaniment honoring Israeli writers Hedva Harechavi, Israel Eliraz and Haim Gouri, as well as Dante, Osip Mandelstam and Matsuo Basho.

The festival will conclude with a musical program combining the poetry of Nathan Zach with compositions by the late Matti Caspi.
Dance and environmental events in the Elah Valley
The Vertigo festival, under the artistic direction of Sigal Roth, will combine contemporary choreography with sustainability initiatives. The main event will be an exclusive pre-premiere by Vertigo Dance Company, scheduled for 2027. The production was created by Noa Wertheim and Rina Wertheim Koren.
The program also features performances by Force of Balance Ensemble, Orly Portal and dancers from Kibbutz 2. Every day from 16:00, visitors will be offered free public events: environmental tours, a second-hand market, sunset movement classes and an art exhibition within Resilience Farm. The final day of the festival will target family audiences and conclude with local food and drinks.
