Video: More than 30 cimbalom players set a Ukrainian record by playing the national anthem on Mount Hoverla
On Ukraine’s highest peak—Hoverla—more than 30 cimbalom players simultaneously performed the Ukrainian national anthem and the folk dance “Arkan.” The musicians set a new national record by combining Ukrainian tradition with this symbolic venue.
On Monday, August 4, more than 30 cimbalom players simultaneously performed musical pieces on Ukraine’s highest peak, setting a national record.
According to the Vorokhta branch of the “Hutsulshchyna” Society, the youngest participant in the event was 10 years old, and the oldest was 59.
“We are especially proud that Vorokhta was worthily represented by the talented cimbalom player Vlad Onyskiv and the novice cimbalom player Oleksandr Hryhorchuk. We are truly delighted that such events promote Hutsul culture and prove that our traditions are alive, evolving, and uniting generations,” noted guide Iryna Zaretska.
The record attempt was initiated by Ihor Ivankiv, director of the Carpathian Arts Foundation. Each cimbalom player carried his own instrument up Mount Hoverla. The “Cimbaloms of Remembrance” were also carried to the summit as a symbol of respect for the fallen musicians who defended Ukraine against Russian aggression.
