Viktor Yushchenko was elected chairman of the supervisory board of the Holodomor Museum
Viktor Yushchenko, the third president of Ukraine, was elected chairman of the supervisory board of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide. He now heads the institution’s advisory body, which is responsible for the museum’s development and support of its activities.
Yushchenko served as president of Ukraine from 2005 to 2010. For many years, he has actively supported the preservation of the historical memory of the Holodomor and its international recognition.
His new role involves participating in the museum’s strategic development and supporting its work in the areas of research and honoring the memory of the victims of the Holodomor genocide.
According to her, at the first meeting of the Holodomor Museum’s supervisory board, the leadership was appointed: Viktor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine from 2005 to 2010, was elected chair; Roman Vashchuk, former Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine (2014–19), was elected vice chair; and Olga Soroka, founder and chair of the Network of Holodomor Descendants, was elected secretary.
The Board also includes Myron Vasylyk, Anton Drobovych, Hanna Kapustian, Taras Kitsmei, Olena Kovalska, Andriy Kogut, Bohdan Logvinenko, and Viktor Rud.
“Their knowledge and experience will help strengthen the Museum’s institutional capacity, ensure transparency in its operations, and unite partners around its further development. Among the top priorities are completing the second phase of the museum complex, creating a permanent exhibition, systematically attracting Ukrainian and international funding, preserving and digitizing the collection, and developing research, educational, and international programs,” Berezhna wrote on Facebook.
As previously reported, in mid-July, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine approved the first members of the supervisory board and the expert council of the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide. The supervisory board includes 11 representatives from Ukrainian civil society organizations, international organizations, the Ukrainian diaspora, and the academic community. Specifically, the third president (2005–10) Viktor Yushchenko; Deputy Head of the Office of the President Olena Kovalska; former Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine (2014–19) Roman Vashchuk, former head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance (2019–24) Anton Drobovych, and journalist, writer, and military officer Bohdan Logvinenko. The supervisory board will hold its first meeting in the near future to elect its leadership and approve its rules of procedure.
This was announced by Tetyana Berezhna, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture.
Yushchenko called on Ukraine and Poland to adhere to the formula “we apologize and ask for forgiveness.”
Earlier, Zelenskyy sent Navrotsky the Order of the White Eagle via Nova Poshta.
Following this, Leonid Kuchma declined the Polish Order of the White Eagle.
Ukraine’s third president, Viktor Yushchenko, also declined the Polish Order of the White Eagle.
In addition, Borys Tarasyuk will return the Polish order due to Navrotsky’s policies.
