Chevron evacuates personnel due to Storm Isaias in the Gulf of Mexico — OilPrice
In the United States, Chevron is evacuating non-essential personnel from its platforms in the Gulf of Mexico due to Tropical Storm Isaias, which is forecast to intensify into a Category 2 hurricane. The northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico could be affected later this week.
Coastal forecast
As OilPrice reports, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, the storm was located about 285 miles west of the Mexican city of Progreso. Maximum sustained wind speeds were 40 mph. Isaias was expected to become a hurricane on Thursday.
The forecast landfall area included Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and northwestern Florida. Dozens of offshore oil and gas platforms, as well as major oil refining facilities, are in the cyclone's path.

Risks to oil refining
Among the facilities in the forecast impact zone is Chevron's refinery in Pascagoula, on the coast of Mississippi. The plant can process 369,000 barrels of oil per day and produces gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, and base lubricating oils.
September ended without hurricanes for the first time in 32 years: the development of tropical systems was restrained by strong wind shear associated with El Niño. Isaias was forecast to become the first Atlantic hurricane of the season.
