Occupied Sevastopol was left without power on the night of July 27
On July 27, temporary power restrictions were imposed in the temporarily occupied city of Sevastopol. The Russian occupation administration cited problems in the power grid outside the region and urged local residents to remain calm. The causes of the large-scale outage have not yet been specified.
City Administrator Mikhail Razvozhayev noted that this decision was made at the direction of the dispatcher of the Black Sea Regional Dispatch Center due to an overload of the power grids outside the city.
Razvozhayev stated that the restrictions are a necessary measure intended to prevent a larger-scale failure in the power grid. According to him, “This measure is necessary. It is necessary to eliminate the overload on the power grids outside our region in order to prevent a failure across the entire power grid.” Residents were also urged to temporarily refrain from using elevators due to the risk of sudden power outages.
Parts of the city’s Leninsky, Gagarinsky, and Balaklavsky districts, as well as certain settlements on the southern coast of occupied Crimea, were affected by the temporary power outages. The restrictions affected both residential neighborhoods and a number of infrastructure facilities. Social services were switched to backup power sources.
Later, the occupying authorities reported that once the overload had been resolved, the restrictions were lifted, and power supply began to be gradually restored. Razvozhayev asked residents not to turn on all their electrical appliances at once once the power returned, as a sudden increase in load could cause the grid to overload again.
However, later that same day, due to another overload of the power grid, the occupying administration reinstated the temporary power outage schedule. Residents were again urged to conserve electricity, charge their cell phones, and avoid using high-power electrical appliances whenever possible. According to Razvozhayev, the dispatcher may implement power cuts without warning, depending on the state of the power grid.
As a reminder, Russia attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region nearly 50 times on July 25.
