Power has been restored in Georgia, and the cause of the blackout has been announced
The cause of the widespread power outage in Georgia was an emergency shutdown of the 500-kilovolt “Imereti” power line. The outage left millions of people without power, and experts worked to restore the power supply.
This was stated by Levan Mebonia, director of the Inguri Hydroelectric Power Plant.
According to him, the outage disrupted the power grid’s operation, leading to its complete collapse.
“This line is not under my jurisdiction. We are currently connecting the power units; power has already been restored, and the electricity supply will soon be fully restored,” said Mebonia.
He clarified that the main load from the Inguri HPP is transmitted to the power grid in Zestafoni.
“A very large amount of power was flowing through this line. When it went offline, the operating mode was disrupted, and the entire power grid collapsed. We are currently working to address the consequences of the accident,” Mebonia stated.
According to the “Georgian State Power Grid,” power supply was fully restored throughout the country by 10:15 a.m.
