Kalshi reports over $400 million in monthly commodity trading volume

In Singapore, startup Kalshi reported that the monthly trading volume of commodity contracts on its platform exceeded $400 million. According to Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters, seven months after launch this figure was four times higher than Kalshi's cryptocurrency trading volume at a comparable stage.

Oil, gas and metals contracts

Kalshi began offering prediction markets linked to oil, gas and metals amid increased retail trading activity. The company said that strong demand for such contracts helped it explore new asset classes and increase trading volumes.

The company noted that the cryptocurrency segment demonstrated the potential for new categories to grow from tens of millions to billions of dollars in monthly trading volume. Kalshi attributes the faster growth of its commodity business to its ability to launch and scale new markets more quickly.

Liquidity and new instruments

Kalshi co-founder Tarek Mansour told Reuters that improved liquidity on the platform contributed to the development of the commodity business. According to him, a large and diverse group of active participants enables users to open and close positions, while allowing the company to launch new contract categories faster.

Kalshi is also exploring perpetual futures contracts for various asset classes and has filed applications related to stock indexes, metals and WTI oil. This came after regulators earlier this year approved such instruments for cryptocurrencies. The company also reported revenue growth and trading volumes that significantly exceeded its estimates related to its partnership with the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
