Exchange Rates on May 21: Dollar Jumps After Hitting Record High, Euro Falls

As of the morning of May 21, Ukraine has seen a sharp rise in the value of the U.S. dollar, which has surged at currency exchange offices and bank teller windows following a new official record set by the National Bank of Ukraine. 

The official exchange rate set a new all-time high of 44.22 hryvnia per dollar, surpassing the previous record set in March. 

In the cash market at currency exchange offices, the dollar gained 12 kopecks at once, reaching 44.10 hryvnia for buying, while financial institutions set rates between 44.40 and 44.60 hryvnia.

After the National Bank set a new historic benchmark, the cash market immediately reacted with a rise in the value of foreign currency. 

At exchange offices, the U.S. dollar is being bought today at 44.10 UAH, and citizens can sell it at a rate of 44.00 UAH, which is 10 kopecks higher than the previous day. 

The situation with the euro at exchange offices remains relatively stable, as the euro can be bought for 51.63 UAH and sold for 51.40 UAH.

At commercial bank teller windows, the upward trend has been somewhat less pronounced than in the cash market. 

On average, the US dollar is bought at banks for 44.40 UAH and sold for 43.90 UAH. 

The highest price of the day was recorded at Pumb Bank, where cash currency rose by 10 kopecks and is being sold at 44.60 UAH, although the euro exchange rate there remained unchanged at 52.00 UAH.

The state-owned PrivatBank raised the price of cash dollars by 5 kopecks to 44.45 UAH, while for non-cash card transactions, the rate remained at 44.44 UAH. 

The cash euro at this financial institution’s teller windows rose by 10 kopecks and currently stands at 51.80 UAH. 

At Oschadbank, the dollar rose by 5 kopecks in the mobile app and for card accounts, where the rates are 44.40 UAH and 44.50 UAH, respectively, while the euro in the app fell by 10 kopecks to 51.60 UAH.

The digital bank Monobank remained stable against the U.S. dollar, fixing its value at 44.43 UAH, but drastically lowered the price of the euro.

The National Bank of Ukraine published the official exchange rates for Saturday, May 16, 2026, noting the hryvnia’s strengthening against the dollar and the euro and the rise of the Polish zloty.
