An investigation into the LIBRA project uncovered a document suggesting a potential $5 million payment for promoting the token that may be linked to Argentina’s President Javier Milei. According to The Block, the materials were discovered on devices belonging to crypto lobbyist Mauricio Novelli.
The reported correspondence indicates coordination among individuals involved in the project and contacts with people close to the Argentine president before public mentions of the token. Investigators believe this could point to an organized promotional effort.
Following Milei’s public endorsement, LIBRA’s market capitalization briefly surpassed $4.5 billion, before later collapsing by around 96%. At the same time, wallets linked to the project reportedly withdrew about $107 million, raising concerns about potential financial manipulation.
Experts say the situation may attract increased scrutiny from regulators and the public toward crypto market practices. Further investigations could reveal additional details and determine possible legal consequences for those involved.
