Major UAE banks face severe mobile app disruptions after Iran's strike on AWS data center
Leading banks in the United Arab Emirates, including First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Emirates NBD, and ADCB, experienced significant disruptions in their mobile applications and digital services following Iran’s attack on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center on March 1. This caused server outages that prevented customers from accessing banking services.
Users were unable to log into FAB’s app and encountered issues with online banking and transaction delays at Emirates NBD and ADCB. These disruptions highlight the banks' reliance on cloud technologies and the vulnerability of their infrastructure to cyber and physical attacks.
Banks are currently working to restore service functionality, with ongoing monitoring to prevent further interruptions.
