Latvia will accept wounded Ukrainian soldiers for treatment twice a month
Latvia will continue to accept wounded Ukrainian soldiers for treatment and rehabilitation twice a month. The decision was made based on the experience that Latvian medical and rehabilitation facilities have gained in assisting those affected by the war in Ukraine.
According to “Ukrainska Pravda,” citing “European Pravda” and Delfi, in addition to the existing flight, another separate flight will be organized to transport patients. This flight will transport patients who, following a health assessment at Riga East University Hospital, will be referred to specialized rehabilitation facilities.
In late July, Riga East University Hospital admitted 32 seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers for the 41st time. In total, 985 patients transported from Ukraine have received medical care at this facility since the start of the war.

After examinations, the patients will be distributed among other Latvian medical and rehabilitation facilities based on the severity of their injuries. Nine patients are scheduled to be transferred to the Vaivari National Rehabilitation Center, four to the Ligatne Rehabilitation Center, and another 19 to the Jaunkemeri Rehabilitation Center.
The treatment of patients from Ukraine at Riga East University Hospital involves traumatologists, surgeons, microsurgeons, infectious disease specialists, physicians specializing in physical and rehabilitation medicine, physical therapists, occupational therapists, radiologists, and laboratory specialists. Patients are being transported to the hospital through the private initiative of Arvis Rekets and Mārtiņš Medinieks, the founders of the M-Help.com charity project.
