Medical organizations issue guidance on vaccination against flu, Covid-19 and RSV
Professional organizations representing pediatricians, family physicians, obstetricians and other medical specialists have jointly issued recommendations on who should receive vaccines against influenza, Covid-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) ahead of the upcoming winter respiratory disease season.
Purpose of the recommendations
The work was carried out jointly with the University of Minnesota’s Vaccine Integrity Project. The purpose of the recommendations is to help healthcare professionals advise patients and help people plan vaccination. As STAT News reports, vaccination should help prevent these illnesses or reduce the risk of severe disease in the event of infection.

Changes in cooperation with the CDC
Previously, these organizations worked with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to jointly issue such guidance. According to STAT News, this joint process broke down after the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices was disbanded.
According to the publication, the expert group was dissolved in June 2025 by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom STAT News describes as a longtime vaccination critic. After that, the committee’s membership was largely made up of people who are skeptical of vaccines.
