South Africa collects cancer stories for new series of articles — Daily Maverick
In South Africa, Daily Maverick, together with Spotlight, is preparing a multi-part series of articles about cancer. The editorial teams invite people who have survived cancer, are currently undergoing treatment, or supported a loved one during illness to share their experiences.
Treatment experience and costs
Participants are invited to say whether medical insurance covered their treatment or whether they had to pay for care out of pocket. Journalists are also interested in patients' experiences at facilities in the public healthcare system.
Separately, Daily Maverick and Spotlight want to collect testimonies about access to life-saving medicines. In particular, this concerns difficulties obtaining medicines because of their high cost or a medical scheme's refusal to cover the expenses.

Invitation for specialists
The editorial teams are also looking for oncology experts willing to write articles for the series. Proposed topics include the science and treatment of cancer, navigating the healthcare system, access to medicines, the cost of therapy, and the economics of developing new drugs.
Specialists are invited to briefly describe their experience and the topic they would like to cover as part of the upcoming publication series.
