Two cases of West Nile fever have been detected in Ukraine over the past six months
In the first half of 2026, two cases of West Nile fever were reported in Ukraine. The disease was confirmed in the Sumy and Poltava regions.
West Nile fever is transmitted primarily through the bites of infected mosquitoes. In most cases, the disease is asymptomatic or mild, but it can sometimes cause severe damage to the nervous system, including meningitis or encephalitis.
Health officials remind the public that the highest risk of infection occurs during the summer and fall, and urge people to use repellents, wear protective clothing, and install mosquito screens.

Earlier, it was reported that the 17th Ebola outbreak had been recorded in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which has already claimed the lives of 80 people. This time, the disease was likely caused by the little-studied Bundibugyo ebolavirus strain, rather than the more common Zaire ebolavirus.
The situation with the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is rapidly deteriorating. The number of suspected cases has already exceeded 900, and medical workers are forced to operate amid armed conflict, attacks on hospitals, and a severe shortage of resources.
