Call of Duty Mobile is a free mobile military game in which participants form squads and compete against other teams. According to Google Play Store data cited by the outlet, the game has been downloaded more than 100 million times, and Nigeria ranks 11th among countries by number of downloads.
Communication during matches
Adesogan Greatman, a student at the Federal University in Lokoja, started playing in 2021 and mainly chooses the Battle Royale mode. According to him, depending on his schedule, he can devote at least six hours a day to the game. Greatman said that he met people from other countries through the game, and some of them invited him to their clans.
Lawyer Yusuf Jonga, who plays under the nickname SoulBrotha, started playing in 2019. He most enjoys short and intense multiplayer matches and, by his own account, spends about five to six hours a day in the game. Jonga noted that his gaming acquaintances include both men and women.

Another player, Joseph Igoanua, said that he meets new people almost every season. He explained that at the start of a new season, the ranking system moves players' profiles two ranks lower, motivating them to once again pursue the highest Legendary level.
Contacts outside the game
According to Jonga, some communication with teammates later moved to WhatsApp. Group members would say when they planned to play and look for people who could join the team. Igoanua also said that player communities exist on WhatsApp, Telegram, X, Facebook and Instagram.
At the same time, the outlet's interviewees do not always consider such contacts to be close friendships. Greatman lost most of his connections after losing his gaming account. Jonga stays in touch with some players via WhatsApp, but has not met them in person and calls them friends rather than close people. Doctor Leo Tarbunde, who plays under the nickname KillaBrotha, said that he is not very social in the game and mostly sees matches as competition.
