Fashion consultant in Estonia advises adding individuality to school clothing
In Estonia, fashion consultant Karolin Kuusik said that school clothing should leave children room to express their own style and character, even if a school uses a uniform. In her view, small details can make an outfit neater and more suitable for studying.
As ERR News reports, Kuusik emphasized that clothing should at least partly reflect the child’s preferences. She gave the example of her own children: her daughter does not wear skirts and goes to school in trousers, while her son likes striped clothing.
Colours, polo shirts and trousers
The consultant noted that colourful clothing can be a good choice if a child feels comfortable in it. According to her, some pupils want to stand out, while others do not. She called polo shirts a relevant option for autumn: such clothing combines the fabric of a T-shirt or sweatshirt with a neater appearance.

Kuusik considers trousers to be the main wardrobe item for girls and boys. She also noted the fashion for soft pleated trousers and pleated skirts. She suggested pairing a skirt that seems too formal with a sweatshirt or white socks.
Layering and preppy style
Kuusik called a vest a practical element of school clothing that can be worn in layers, including over a white T-shirt, to create a contrasting and neat look. She also drew attention to the popularity of preppy style, a restrained, elegant and academic trend originating from the clothing traditions of elite schools and universities in the United States. According to her, a button-up shirt worn under a sweatshirt can add extra neatness.
