Ralph Lauren opens New York Fashion Week amid fur ban
American designer Ralph Lauren on September 9 opened New York Fashion Week in the United States with a runway show of his brand’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection. This year, a complete ban on the use of natural fur on runways at official New York Fashion Week events came into effect.

The 86-year-old designer presented looks in the brand’s signature navy blue and white palette. The colors were also complemented by gold, beige and dusty pink shades, Asharq Al-Awsat reports, citing AFP.
The brand said the collection reinterprets traditional ideas of elegance and historical silhouettes. The combinations presented included tailored-fabric trousers, a leather jacket, a boater hat and ballet flats. The runway also featured dresses that could be suitable for red carpets.
Among the guests in the front row were Oscar winners Viola Davis and Ariana DeBose, as well as actress Cynthia Erivo, known for her role in the film “Wicked.” The Ralph Lauren show took place on the eve of the official start of the fashion week program.

Ban on natural fur
In December, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which organizes New York Fashion Week, announced a ban on natural fur at official events that came into effect this month. On Wednesday, another show was held by the American brand Coach, known for handbags and other leather accessories.
The main program of New York Fashion Week starts on September 10. The announced shows include Proenza Schouler, Christian Siriano, Tory Burch and Tommy Hilfiger. Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera and Thom Browne are also set to present collections during the week. In total, around 70 collections are expected on New York runways.
Ralph Lauren and Coach, according to AFP, posted double-digit revenue growth in the latest quarter despite a slowdown in the luxury goods market.
