Security agreement
The agreement, which is expected to be signed this week during the UN General Assembly, provides for a pact between the United States, Denmark, and Greenland. It is intended to ensure a significant military presence in the territory and prevent Washington's adversaries from establishing bases there.
CNBC notes that the agreement was preceded by several months of threats by President Donald Trump to annex the territory. Trump insisted that Greenland is critically important to US national security.
